Hinatuan’s Enchanted River Location : Barangay Talisay, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
This little known town is blessed with a hidden treasure --a stunning blue lagoon nestled within a mountainside and protectively covered by a forest. Its dark tinge comes from the Pacific sea pouring in from a deep underwater crevice. To local folks, it is said to be enchanted. Full of rich marine fishes swimming in the deep blue, no one is said to have ever caught one. Once you take a dip in the cool, clear waters, you don't want to come out.
Hinatuan can be reached by land from Davao in an estimated 7 hours, or via Bislig City in less than 2 hours. Buses ply the routes too. We thank Surigao del Sur’s Provincial Administrator Johnny Pimentel and wife Liles for the invitation again, Provincial Tourism Officer Ms. Lala Ambray and staff for the marvelous accommodation, and our tour guide/designated driver Jun Tumbokon for the amazing road trip we had over Surigao del Sur’s coastal areas and magnificent places.
i practically grew up right next to Hinatuan since it's a couple of hours away from Agusan, but I haven't been in this place before.. too bad. i'm missing a lot... it looks really beautiful!
napanganga ako sa photos, jojie! thank you very much for sharing. para nga talagang pang-engkanto, ano? I'll try to squeeze Hinatuan in our holiday schedule when I go home to Davao this xmas :)

yes, make that top itinerary on your list. you won't regret it. never mind the bumpy road, ha. :-)
haha it's still enchanted! you ought to have stayed the night there, jojie, and let the fist-sized hermit crabs come and visit :) love your photos!
thank you jen dear, but am not half as crazy as you and christy who camped for two nights there and swam at night with only a bonfire to light your world! Hey, Christy just visited me today and told me again of your misadventures in Hinatuan on a Holy week vacation at that. As in wala daw talagang nagpakita sa inyo. Or di lang nyo napansin. Crazy, crazy girls. At least binida ko kayo sa article ko, hehe... :-)
This is one of my favorite photos mo Jie. I wish I could dive on this spot soon. I'm having this inggit feeling. And I will be prepared sa bumpy ride na sinabi mo and I will bring my gears i.e. googles, flippers, etc. Infairness, konti lang ang dinami ng algae from year 2003 to 2007. See the difference?
Sana naman sa pag punta ko dyan walang Waterhorse. ha ha ha. But I think it's totally vasin naman. Sawa? meron kaya dyan? ha ha ha feeling Jennifer Lopez ang dating (anaconda)
My dad was from Hinatuan, been there a few times when I was little but I've never been to the river. Judging from your story and pictures, I am itching to go and see the place! By the way I remember Liles (in the picture) I used to go to high school with her in Tandag where I spent a few good years of my life. I chanced upon your site while reading Inquirer online. I read SunStar Cebu online as well, everyday to keep up with things back home. It's been like 25 plus years since I been to Tandag, I live in California now but I always wanted to take a long road trip around the coast (I used to be a med rep driving up and down both Surigaos and Agusan up to Cagayan de Oro during the early-mid 80s) soon when I packed my bags and head home for good! Keep those travel stories coming, now that I bookmarked your site, I will be checking back on a regular basis. Great Job!........Jun Alfonso
Jie, pahiram ng photo na ito. I-promote ko lang ang Mindanao Island sa friend ko sa Canada na lagi nalang visit sa Europe. I want him to come to Phils Islands and enjoy his native land in which sands & gravel were mixed together to make a bungalow house. Tsaka Jie, why not post your photos in Google Earth. I visited Surigao, no photos at all. You might be the first. One more thing, check this out ! Sad to say that photos of Davao (Claveria) posted in Google Earth are not Dabawenyos? Asan ba tayo sa oras na yun? Kaka-tense
wooow! hello, would you happen to know anyone we can get in touch with if we want to visit the place from manila? thanks! nice...
Yes, i was personally invited by their Mayor and the Provincial city admin of Surigao del Sur. Just let me know when you are coming so I will give you the proper recommendations. :-)
